River City Science Academy is encouraging our artists, writers, and inspiring educators to participate in statewide contests celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida are inviting students and educators across the state to participate in contests centered around this year’s theme, “Celebrating Florida’s Hispanic Heritage.”

RCSA students have an opportunity to get creative, share their voices, and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Floridians.

Art Contest | Grades K–3

Young artists can showcase their creativity through original artwork celebrating Florida’s Hispanic heritage. Four statewide winners will each receive a $200 gift card for school supplies.

Essay Contest | Grades 4–12

Students can share their perspectives through writing, with six statewide winners each receiving a 2-year Florida College Plan scholarship from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, plus a $200 gift card for school supplies.

Excellence in Education Award

Students, parents, teachers, and principals can also nominate an outstanding full-time Florida educator for the Excellence in Education Award. Four educators will each receive $2,500.

Deadline: Monday, September 21, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET
