We are proud to share the exciting news that Markus Keller-Karatsonyi, a senior at River City Science Academy Middle-High, has been accepted to the University of Florida, one of the nation’s most respected and prestigious universities.
Markus’s high school journey has been truly exceptional. As the valedictorian of his graduating class, he has demonstrated outstanding academic excellence and dedication throughout his time at RCSA. He will be completing an impressive 16 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and 8 dual enrollment classes, earning a remarkable 4.90 weighted GPA.
Markus’s commitment to excellence extends far beyond the classroom. His strong leadership, determination, and clear sense of purpose have made him a standout student and an inspiring role model within our school community.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Markus for a short interview to learn more about his experiences, future goals, and reflections on this exciting milestone:
What was your first reaction when you found out you got accepted to University of Florida?
I was happy! My friends got in and we hope to live together.
What do you plan to study at UF, and what excites you most about it?
I will study computer science. I’m excited to make a startup that gets more funding than it deserves with my friends.
What activities or experiences do you think helped your application stand out?
I think that the consistency of my interest in computer science helped my application. I thought my essays were alright, but Aryan Patel disagreed.
What role did River City Science Academy play in shaping your academic journey?
I had access to many AP classes and extracurriculars. Those were good both for my college application and my friendships.
How would you describe the learning environment at River City Science Academy?
Supportive yet also competitive.
Were there any teachers or mentors who had a big impact on you?
Mr. B, for giving me a strong foundation in math.
Mr. Reeves, for saying “good morning” and telling interesting stories.
Mr. Plummer, for being a top-notch connection in tech (and being real when it would be more convenient to be fake, and being the perfect level of friendly).
What advice would you give to students dreaming of top universities?
I wouldn’t know; look to Luke for advice on this.
How do you hope to make a difference in the world through your education?
Honestly, I’m going into computer science because I enjoy its journey, not necessarily its destination, so I’ll be happy as long as I’m in the field. But I’ll avoid Palantir and such, maybe. I’d feel best working in countersurveillance.
