
We are proud to share the wonderful news that Grace Alashhab, a senior at River City Science Academy Middle-High, has been accepted to Florida State University, one of Florida’s most respected and highly regarded public universities.
Grace’s high school journey has been truly impressive. Throughout her time at RCSA, she has demonstrated outstanding academic dedication and perseverance by completing 11 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and an exceptional 18 dual enrollment classes. With a remarkable weighted GPA of 4.7377, Grace has consistently challenged herself with rigorous coursework and has shown a strong commitment to academic excellence.
Grace’s achievements extend beyond academics. Her determination, maturity, and clear sense of purpose have made her a valued member of our school community and an inspiring role model for her peers.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Grace for a short interview to learn more about her experiences, future goals, and reflections on this exciting accomplishment.

What was your first reaction when you found out you got accepted to Florida State University (FSU)?
I was really excited when I found out that I got accepted into FSU. I felt a sense of relief knowing that my hard work for the past four years paid off. I was also excited at the opportunities I will have at FSU.
What do you plan to study at FSU, and what excites you most about it?
I plan to study biological sciences at FSU. I am excited to study biology as I enjoy science and learning about the human body. My major will also help me to learn about medicine as I intend to continue to medical school.
What activities or experiences do you think helped your application stand out?
Being part of Rhizome, a nonprofit civic engagement group, I believe helped me stand out as this is a unique and helpful community service. Being president of my church youth group was also an extracurricular that showcased my leadership and community service. Being a member of the mental health club and vice president also displayed my passion to help people. Lastly, being a member of HOSA especially showed my dedication to the medical field.
What role did River City Science Academy play in shaping your academic journey?
River City science academy helped me do advanced course work which helped me learn and achieve a high GPA. This school also offered many programs such as ESMP, AP, and dual enrollment which allowed me to get ahead in my studies. These all worked to build my academic profile.
How would you describe the learning environment at River City Science Academy?
The studying environment at River City Science Academy is very competitive which helps me push forward. Being surrounded by high achieving students motivated me to work to my fullest potential. The academic programs also helped people with my academic growth.
Were there any teachers or mentors who had a big impact on you?
Ms.Sloan was one of the teachers that helped me most through my high school journey. Not only was she helpful when I had her class, but she continued assisting me in my college journey. Ms.Taylor was also a great mentor especially being a science teacher as that is the field of study I am most interested in. She was a great teacher and a great supporter through my journey.
What advice would you give to students dreaming of top universities?
I would advise any students dreaming of getting into the top colleges to maintain a high GPA and study for the SAT. However, also being involved in school clubs and extracurriculars help to show how much of a well-rounded student you are.
How do you hope to make a difference in the world through your education?
I hope that through my education I can become a doctor and help out my community. I especially hope to make a difference in the lives of sick children.
