What was your first reaction when you found out you got accepted to the University of Florida?
When I found out I got accepted into the University of Florida, I was honestly in shock. I reread the decision multiple times because I couldn’t believe that all my hard work had finally paid off. I felt extremely proud, grateful, and relieved knowing that every late night, challenge, and sacrifice led me to this moment. It was an emotional experience, and I immediately thought of my family, teachers, and mentors who supported me throughout my journey.
What do you plan to study, and what excites you most about it?
Although I was accepted into UF, I will be attending the University of North Florida, where I plan to major in biomedicine and minor in international affairs. I want to become a doctor to help people in underserved countries that need medical attention the most, and becoming a family physician with a minor in international affairs will help prepare me for that goal. This path will allow me to understand not only medicine, but also different cultures, healthcare systems, and global challenges. What excites me most is knowing that my education can help me save lives, serve vulnerable communities, and create meaningful change around the world.
What activities or experiences do you think helped your application stand out?
I believe my involvement in leadership, debate, youth advocacy, and community service helped my application stand out. Through debate and public speaking, I gained confidence, critical thinking skills, and the ability to express myself clearly. My volunteer work and leadership experiences taught me empathy, responsibility, and perseverance. These activities allowed me to grow as both a student and a person while showing my dedication to service and impact.
What role did River City Science Academy play in shaping your academic journey?
River City Science Academy played a major role in shaping my academic discipline and mindset. The school challenged me through rigorous coursework, including twelve AP classes, which helped me build strong study habits, time management skills, and resilience. RCSA encouraged me to push beyond my comfort zone and aim higher than I ever thought possible. The support I received helped me believe in myself and stay motivated even during difficult moments.
How would you describe the learning environment at River City Science Academy?
The learning environment at River City Science Academy is challenging, supportive, and motivating. Teachers truly care about students’ success and are always willing to help inside and outside the classroom. Students are encouraged to stay disciplined, responsible, and committed to their goals. This environment prepared me well for the academic expectations and independence of college.
Were there any teachers or mentors who had a big impact on you?
Yes, my school counselor, Mrs. Livingston, had the biggest impact on my academic and personal journey. She supported me when I felt like I had no one to turn to and consistently believed in my potential. She met with me every quarter during the school year to help me understand where I stood academically, set goals, and figure out how I could improve. Her encouragement, patience, and guidance helped me stay focused, confident, and motivated. In addition, many teachers at River City Science Academy supported me by always being available for help and guidance, and talking with professors at the colleges I was interested in helped shape my goals and gave me valuable insight into my future path.
What advice would you give to students dreaming of top universities?
My advice is not to worry about the path you are on. You may think you are not the smartest in your class or do not have the most leadership positions, but that does not define your potential. What truly matters is having a passion and a dream that you are determined to accomplish. If you have that, any college would want you, because you are not afraid of rejection and will keep pushing forward, and one way or another, you will complete your dream. At the same time, be involved in civic engagement and your community, challenge yourself academically, and work hard in your classes. Make appointments with your counselors to see what more you can do, and take multiple standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, and CLT, to find which one best fit your strengths.
How do you hope to make a difference in the world through your education?
I hope to use my education to become a compassionate doctor who serves people in underserved communities and countries. By combining medicine with international affairs, I want to improve healthcare access, promote equality, and provide care to those who need it most. I aim to treat patients with empathy, respect, and cultural understanding. Through service, leadership, and advocacy, I hope to create lasting change and positively impact lives around the world.
