1860 Starratt Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32226 The Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide a safe, loving, forever home for endangered big cats, and to educate the public about their plight in the wild and captivity. Current residents include tigers, lions, cougars, leopards, bobcats, arctic foxes, and coatimundis (the last two are “honorary cats”). Enjoy a leisurely, guided tour of the sanctuary and see all the residents (Siberian tigers, lions, cougars, spotted and black leopards, bobcats, coatimundis and arctic foxes)! JEA Power Pals- a three-week program where first grade students learn about electric safety through fun, interactive activities. JEA team members join students in their classrooms, explaining good safety practices and how to spot dangers that may be inside or outside their homes. JEA also offers a one-hour Power Pals program that can easily fit into your busy day or an after-school program.

11884 UNF Dr, Jacksonville, FL, 32224 Our Environmental Education Programs at the University of North Florida provide school children with the unique opportunity of learning more about wildlife and nature while outdoors. All of our education programs are ranger guided and begin with an introduction to the University of North Florida and the UNF Wildlife Sanctuary. The concept of wildlife is discussed and relevant safety points are extensively described.

Our education programs are designed for K-9 grade. We strive to bring youth and the community into nature, hosting our programs in the 382 acre Sawmill Slough Preserve on campus. Along our five mile trail system, we teach participants about the local plants, animals and habitats that make up the preserve. Every program can be adapted to suit the age group of your students.

8464 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, 32216 Pawsitive Reading – a program in which children visit the shelter to read to the pets – is designed to provide enrichment for kids, dogs, and cats. Believe it or not, just listening to a person reading out loud has been proven to lower stress levels in animals! Pawsitive Reading is also a great way for kids to work on their literacy skills in safe, fun environment.

In order to join the Pawsitive Reading program, children AND at least one parent/guardian must first attend a one-time Pawsitive Reading orientation. We offer several orientations each month. Upcoming orientation dates and sign-up links are below. Advance registration is required.
