In Ms. Marx’s gifted class, students learned about early boat building and the materials they were made from. Students also learned about the different parts of a boat and their role in making it float and move. Students were given the challenge of designing boats that would compete against each other in speed and weight. We spent a day designing and two days building. Then they spent a day racing them against each other. The top 5 of all the classes then went up against each other for an overall winner. After it was over, students then discussed design flaws and successes to wrap up everything.
