Back in October, an exciting opportunity came about for RCSA students: the chance to send their very own messages to space! Through a partnership with Northeast Florida Regional STEM2 Hub, this opportunity became a reality when the postcards, decorated with drawings and fun quotes, were launched last Thursday morning. Through Blue Origin, students were able to watch live coverage of their postcards being shipped off to space. All postcards will be mailed back with ‘Flown to Space’ stamps. You can read more about the launch and watch the video here.
“Why do you think Earth needs space?” was a question each student was asked to answer on their postcard. They were also asked what they want to be when they grow up, and students had a lot of fun drawing what space looks like to them. “Activities like this are great for getting students engaged and excited about science,” said Sel Buyuksarac, Co-Founder of River City Science Academy and Chief of Public Affairs and Government Relations. To see more information, check out this interview with Jayce Slaughter, one of the students who got to participate!
